Pneumonia is not a  simple problem

We all think Heart diseases are dangerous, risky and life-threatening. With the improvement of treatments in cardiology, the continuation rates are increasing leading to extended life span. But we cannot tell the same about pneumonia, which in history was held a simple disease. Nowadays pneumonia is critical or dangerous because it can threaten life directly or indirectly by accelerating heart diseases.

Who is likely to develop pneumonia?

Pneumonia is common among the old in whom 30% of them have underlying cardiac disease.

Diseases that can influence to pneumonia development are:

  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Brain stroke
  • Heart Failure
  • Chronic Obstructive airway disease
  • Ischemic heart disease

What is the relationship between heart disease and pneumonia?

There are chances of increasing heart problems who are suffering  from pneumonia

  • Heart attack: 10-15% of patients who suffered pneumonia venture producing a heart attack in the next 7-10 days.
  • Heart Failure: Pneumonia stimulates the growth of heart failure due to extended workload on the heart. With the growing hardness of pneumonia, heart failure chance rises and approaches 25% in those exposed to ICU related to 3% who have been treated on an outpatient basis.
  • Atrial fibrillation: Pneumonia develops from the damaged heart or elderly. This accelerates the growth of an unusual, turbulent, fast heart rate termed atrial fibrillation. The growth of this disease can worsen dangerous cardiac resources starting with heart failure.
  • Antibiotics used for managing pneumonia, macrolides and fluoroquinolones can themselves harm the heart by making direct damage as well as causing fast heart rates.
