In this video Dr. Rahul Patil has answered an important question about, is there a chance that if my father got an heart attack will I get a heart attack too in the future?
The answer for the question is YES.
If your parents for an heart attack at an early age, mother less than 65 years of age and father less than 60 years of age. Then the change of an heart attack in children is almost 10 years earlier than their parents. There are heart attack that run in family and that heart attack are due to Familial hypercholesterolemia. There is a diseases entity known as Family high cholesterol levels and this is due to some genetic change in enzyme, which usually clear the bad enzymes from blood. So these are the patents who are very difficult to treat and very high cholesterol levels, but today with the use to this technology this can definitely treat these patients. As per my knowledge of 15 years of my practice. I have seen a 9 years old girl to get an heart attack because of familial cholesterol level diseases. Young patients getting heart attack is usually genetically linked. To disturb the genetics usually smoking is the reason in young mens to get an heart attack, who have a family history of heart attack.
If someone in your family has got an heart attack at an early age, then you need to evaluate yourself. Those who have crossed 30 years of age need do some blood test
1. Lipid Profile
2. Blood Sugar
3. Homocysteine
4. HSCRP
5. Lipoproteins A
These are the blood tests that are not generally prescribed but if you do this can help you prevent an heart attack at an early stage.
After you perform the above tests meet your cardiologist he will do the basic workup of
1. ECG
2. 2D Echocardiology
3. Color Doppler
4. Stress test
Which will help us evaluate the chances of getting an heart attack. So take all the possible care of yourself to not get an heart attack and to not transfer this to your own family in the future before the age of 65 years.
